THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a motivated individual who is passionate about helping to create the future for the Tamworth region. You will have great people management skills and have significant experience in planning.
You will have the ability to collaborate with staff, state agencies and the development industry to deliver positive community economic and development outcomes for those who already call the region home as well as those who will choose Tamworth region as their desired place to live, work and play, with our strategic vision Blueprint 100 setting your direction.

Salary range: Grade 19: $108,750.58 - $117,673.11 per annum plus superannuation for a 35 hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.

Team Leader Development Assessment

- Lead a team of dedicated graduate and experienced planners responsible for assessing and determining low-risk development applications under our streamlined assessment pathway.
- Work collaboratively with the Team Leader, DA - Major Projects to deliver high-quality, timely assessments of development applications
- This role is pivotal in delivering timely, customer-focused planning outcomes that support sustainable growth and community wellbeing.

The Team Leader Development Assessment Is Responsible For
- Working collaboratively with the Team Leader of Development Assessment – Major Projects and other internal Supervisors and Managers
- Leading and mentoring a team of graduate and experienced planners to deliver high-quality, timely assessments of development applications.
- Overseeing the implementation and continuous improvement of the Fast Track DA process
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex planning issues
- Monitoring DA performance metrics and drive service excellence
- Championing innovation and digital transformation in development assessment
- Applying a high level understanding and ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation
- Implementing effective communication strategies including dealing with complicated development matters requiring imaginative and flexible solutions
- Delivering high quality and responsive customer service to a wide range of customers
- Managing difficult and at times highly emotional customers and apply conflict resolution strategies
- Facilitating continuous improvement including, researching and preparation of land use development policies
- Providing professional specialist advice including being an Expert Witness in the Land and Environment Court
- Experience and/or ability to coach and mentor junior planners/staff
Essential Criteria
- Degree and Post Graduate Diploma or 4 year Degree in Planning or related discipline
- Driver Licence
- Certificate IV in Frontline Management
- Architecture / Urban Design
- Environmental Management / Ecology
- Training in conflict resolution
